Becoming a Father
Never have I felt this level of gratitude and love. I sometimes look at my life and ask myself how it is possible to be so blessed. I feel so blessed that sometimes I feel guilty that the whole world cannot experience the level of happiness I feel. My daughter, Aeyla Gluckstein Mecca, came into the world on 1/23/26 at 4:34am. Labor was 4 hours. My wife, having thoroughly prepared with daily yoga, pelvic floor exercises, hypnobabies, raspberry tea, readings, acupuncture and mu

The Gorilla
Written 3/30/18 in Bangkok, Thailand. Babu roared as his captors whipped him through his chains. His arms and legs were bound with shipping knots to the concrete floor. The air in the tent was humid but the cool of the night brought Babu much needed relief from the boiling heat of the day. When his captors were finished with the training session, they returned Babu to his bloodied cage. He laid down and groaned a rumbling, low-pitched sigh. He missed his home in the jungle, m

INT. KEVIN'S FOYER - NIGHT A black sedan with halogen headlights pulls up outside the house, and BRIAN and LISA exit carrying KEVIN around their shoulders. They enter the front door struggling with Kevin who is nearly passed out drunk. They bring him to the bedroom and set him down on the bed. LISA Ugh, good god! BRIAN Yea, that was my workout for the year. LISA (laughing) Thanks for helping him get here for the night, I don't think we'd have made it without you. BRIAN No pro

The Tablets of Dis, Part I
I'm defecting from the United States government. I believe the public should be privy to the knowledge I am revealing. On April 22nd, 2016 the Tablets arrived with a blast of fire in a house located in rural North Dakota. The house started burning and the local fire department was notified of the phenomenon. Eventually we found out about it and the cover up was given first priority. Though made of sandstone, the Tablets pose a significant health hazard. They are highly radioa

The Secret of the Vu
Walking through East Bramble near Pittsford, NY on a brisk October day, I spotted one for the first time. I didn’t know what it was at that point. I was rambling around the cemetery after my shift at the post office. It was 1971 and the air was crisp and calm, and the light breeze occasionally shook the leaves above, dry and colored, sounding almost like a wave washing into shore. I have always loved the tranquil sound of leaves in the wind, and I looked up at the black silho

How far I’ve come in 5 years
Originally posted March 31, 2023 Wow. Reading back on my post from 2018, I am astounded at how far I have come in my life. I look back an I am so proud of my younger self for facing his fear and FEELING the most uncomfortable emotions imaginable. I am so proud of myself for actually doing the work. A moment comes to mind, perhaps the most difficult part of my life, perhaps rock bottom for me. I was in Santa-Cruz, California trying to make a life there, and yet I had no drive,

Confused
Originally posted December 7, 2018 I sit here today on 12/7/2018 in a state of complete and utter confusion. The situation in my life right now is: -I have no job -I have no idea what my “passion” is -I have no hard skill, only a Biomedical Engineering degree -I have been out of work for just over 1 year (except odd jobs) -I don’t want to get back into Biomedical Engineering Every time I think about returning to Biomedical Engineering, I feel horrible. It is not who I am – I
